The Christmas market in Freising made children's eyes light up.

And then it even snowed.

But Santa breathes a sigh of relief for other reasons.

Freising – Magical Christmas gifts in drawers, children’s eyes shining, 160 liters of mulled wine and Santa Claus who was looking forward to the end of the chaos on the construction site: these were just a few of the ingredients that made the Freising charitable Christmas market at the weekend once again one of the most beautiful this year and most original Christmas markets far and wide.

After a two-year Corona break, the Aktive City Freising eV as the organizer, together with its cooperation partners, has once again proven one thing: it takes a lot of heart and soul to balance such a feat of strength for a good cause.

There was support from Mother Holle, who sent the first snow to the cathedral city to ensure the perfect Christmas market feeling.

Former Lord Mayor Dieter Thalhammer "really really enjoyed" pouring mulled wine on a voluntary basis.

Shortly before midnight, two hours after the official opening, Freising's former mayor, Dieter Thalhammer, finally stopped serving mulled wine at the Lions Club.

"But I really like doing it, it's very uplifting for me," said Thalhammer, mainly because the net proceeds from the sales go to a good cause, and in these times the need for it is greater than ever.

What Thalhammer was then looking forward to, of course, was a relaxed stroll, during which there was again a lot to see this year, such as at the stand of the Prop Therapy Center Aiglsdorf.

Whether pottery bowls, carved hop cones or magnetic cats: fans of handicrafts could only marvel at the high quality of the therapeutic work.

"I think these things are just super and really beautiful," said Claudia Kranka, while she had the newly purchased ceramic bowl for Christmas cookies wrapped.

A visit to the prop stand is a must for her; at home she already has at least ten such musical art works.

The proceeds from the sale, so the Prop team explains, will go this year, among other things, into a pot for the purchase of a new couch for the Aiglsdorf TV room.

Claudia Kranka was amazed at the high quality of the sound work at the prop stand.

The Lions Club and the Rotarians Freising support various social projects – both organizations could hardly keep up with the mulled wine and punch bar on early Saturday afternoon.

The Rotarians Norbert Zierer, Andreas Lasch and Thorsten Bach count: "We still have 160 liters of mulled wine - but supplies would also be provided immediately!"

The stand of Marafiki wa Afrika eV was extremely mysterious, because after buying a ticket you could look into the drawers of a magic box and then take the contents home with you: home-knitted socks, for example, or lovingly made Christmas candles.

Valentin Weigand was most happy about the stand with the empanadas.

Mama Barbara and son Valentin Weigand were busy trying to find out what was in the small packages that had been distributed by the evangelical community.

The solution: A tea bag, a candle and a little Christmas story as basic equipment for waiting for the Christkindl.

But what the eight-year-old liked the most was stopping at the booth with the delicious empanadas with mum before they went home to warm up.

Incidentally, the kids were also able to warm up with Gabriele Goerge, who told the story in the front room of the Citizens' Office about Santa Claus, who then turned up in front of the town hall an hour later.

When asked by FT whether he should scold the city of Freising or rather praise it, he didn't have to think long: "I'm happy that the construction sites are decreasing - and that I can already be sitting on the Moosach next summer. "

Best musical accompaniment: the finest brass tones and vocal masterpieces from various choirs contributed to the atmospheric ambience.

Above all, the good soul of the market, Max-Josef Kirchmaier, was relieved, because after all the stress of the preparatory work, the Christmas market ran like clockwork, the visitors were extremely satisfied, and all the children's eyes shone brightly, just as it should be for a Christmas market with bright lights and heard snow magic.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The musical accompaniment provided the perfect Charles Dickens mood, including the finest brass tones and vocal masterpieces from various choirs.

The summary: A Christmas market that is rare;

one that lets the original Christmas spirit shine brightly again.

Namely to help where possible.
