Three people have been hospitalized in recent days after eating poisonous mushrooms, one of them is sedated and ventilated due to a multisystem injury.

The three men were walking in the Jerusalem area last week and ate mushrooms they had collected and made soup from - as they turned out to be dangerous.

The traveler who was sedated and ventilated is a Chinese citizen, who arrived at the ER with nausea and weakness on Friday morning, holding the picture of the mushroom they ate, after his friends had already undergone medical treatment.

Hours after arriving at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, he collapsed.

He suffers from kidney failure and heart damage - a rare event, according to the senior doctor at the Ichilov intensive care unit, Dr. Andrey Nebo.

The traveler was immediately taken to the doctors and underwent CPR.

"There is nothing left for us to do except connect him to a heart-lung machine and dialysis," Nebo repeated.

"We ourselves were surprised by the speed of his deterioration. It is difficult to assess his chances of recovery," he admitted.

At the Ichilov hospital, they contacted his two travel companions, and are trying to locate his family in China.

"There is no cure for the toxin of the fungus, we simply give supportive care to the organs," explained the senior doctor.

Dr. Nebo emphasized, "The most important thing to remember in Israel is that we don't have much experience with mushroom poisoning, because we don't have large forests in Israel, so don't eat things you don't know."
