Tips to take care of your laundry (@southern_living)

What could be so complicated about laundry?

You will be surprised - a survey conducted among 2,000 Britons who do laundry on a regular basis found, for example, that almost half of them leave tissue paper in their pockets, have difficulty understanding the washing instructions on the label and regularly use the same operating program - without adjusting the correct program for washing.

The survey was carried out by the laundry experts Dr. Beckman and Troy "The Wizard", who together tried to reveal the incorrect laundry habits of the British public.

The survey found that 26 percent leave their wet clothes in the machine for too long, 20 percent fill the machine with too many items and 18 percent put detergent in the wrong drawer.

25 percent of the respondents admitted that they find it difficult to properly sort and separate their white and colored laundry, 21 percent choose hot temperatures because they fear that washing in cold water will not kill bacteria properly, 53 percent are forced to perform repeated washings to achieve the desired result and the same percentage admit that they regularly throw away clothes destroyed in the wash.

Even worse, 43 percent of respondents admitted that they avoid wearing one or more items from their closet - because they are simply not sure how to properly wash it when the time comes.

37 percent also admitted that they do not trust their partner to do the laundry properly.

Susan Paramore, spokesperson for Magic Leaves, said: "Doing laundry is not an easy task as the survey shows about mistakes that Britons make every day. Although doing laundry seems like a simple task, there is a lot of information that needs to be taken into account - from the settings of the washing machine to the powder and fabric softener in them users and the needs of the clothes themselves."

Here are the ten most common mistakes Brits make when it comes to laundry.

If you do at least half of them, you should probably change your habits:

  • 1. Leaving a tissue or other paper in the pocket resulting in the creation of disturbing white fluff on clean laundry.

  • 2. Mixing white and colored laundry.

  • 3. Leaving wet clothes in the drum for a long time after washing - which causes unpleasant smells.

  • 4. Overfilling the machine, which leads to unclean washing and water leakage.

  • 5. Washing in an incorrect program that results in shrinkage or destruction of the garment.

  • 6. Placing fabric softener and washing powder in the wrong drawers of the washing machine.

  • 7. Lack of cleanliness of the washing machine itself - which produces mold that stains and smells the clothes.

  • 8. Damage to the absorbency of items by using too much fabric softener.

  • 9. Washing of technological devices forgotten in the pocket, such as phones or headphones.

  • 10. Coins that remain in pockets and make noises when the machine is running and get stuck in the filter.
