Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finally want to give their point of view in the Netflix documentary.

That is also necessary.

Meghan in particular often seemed weepy and manipulative without the background that has now been revealed.

Montecito – Meghan Markle (41) and Prince Harry (38) report in detail about the beginnings of their relationship with Prince Harry in their Netflix documentary "Harry & Meghan".

In October 2016, the tender ties with the then-hot bachelor and youngest son of King Charles III trickled.

(74) in the press.

Meghan was in Toronto, Canada, filming the TV series Suits at the time, she recalls, when the storm hit.

Meghan: "All the curtains were drawn and the blinds were drawn.

It was scary."

There was a hunt by the paparazzi:

"It felt as if all the British media were attacking Toronto," said the mother of two in the first part of the documentary.

"All of a sudden, it was like everything in my life became so much more isolated," the Duchess recalls.

“All the curtains were drawn and the blinds drawn.

It was scary."

Without knowing Meghan's version in the Netflix documentary, Meghan often seems tearful.

“My house was just surrounded.

Men were in their cars all the time, waiting for me to do anything," she continued, adding, "My face was everywhere, my life was everywhere.

The tabloids had taken over." The neighborhood was also incited, as Meghan explains, "Then my neighbors texted me saying, 'They're knocking on everyone's doors, they're trying to find you.'"

They would also have paid neighbors to install a live camera in their backyard.

The press problem from the perspective of the Sussexes

The journalist and author Afua Hirsch (41) explains the problem with media reporting in the documentary as follows: “There is the idea that we allow the royals to exist – on the condition that we have a right to constant information about their private lives .” A motto seems to apply here: We reveal – not you!

The royals should remain part of the theater, as puppets to be used at will by the media pullers to entertain the masses."

Harry says, "It's not just about our history."

From his point of view, the connection had to be broadened: "Hardly anyone knows the whole truth, the institution knows it, we know it and the media know it because they are involved."

Meghan says: "It's not [the self-portrayal in the documentary] pleasant, but when you've felt like people don't know who you are for so long, it's nice to give them a better sense of what's happening is and who we are."

Prince Harry: "I heard all this from thousands of miles away...but was completely helpless"

At the same time, Prince Harry notices what sensitively reminds him of the extreme media hype surrounding the early death of his mother Princess Diana (36, † 1997).

It is still his trauma today: "I heard all this from thousands of miles away and tried to do something about it, but I was completely helpless," says the brother of the heir to the throne Prince William (40).

Particularly awkward about the situation: "There were things that were written that I then had to ask her [Meghan] about," he added.

Meghan even received a death threat, she reports.

The fact that the press worked on Meghan and Harry didn't stop with their engagement or their wedding in May 2018.

Sensational headlines could be read - about father, half-sister and the smallest little things.

"Behind the scenes, I became more and more withdrawn," says Meghan.

The beginning of the documentary shows how the couple paved their way to exiting the royal family through their own mobile phone and video documentation in order to break away from the tacit agreement between royals and the press.

In the end, those who remain silent join in.
