"We were very close to advancing to the semi-finals," said the English coach.
"I was very happy about our performance yesterday against France. The disappointment is mainly because we felt we could have done it and continued to the end. Despite the feeling of missing out, I have very few things that I regret about this tournament. It was a real roller coaster."

Southgate added: "The players know they played great. In sport, the difference between losing and winning is so small, but when you coach a team and work with them, you have to take the small difference to the side of winning. Certainly, a few years ago, we could have been shocked from a game like this and being scared by the lag. We got through that period and managed to control the second half as well. Our crowd was wonderful, they helped us a lot throughout the tournament and also the crowd at home, and we appreciate that."
The coach complimented his squad and praised the ability of the young players: "We have a team with a very young squad combined with very experienced players. The combination of these two things can take this team for a long time ahead. We fell on the small things, and it looks, but I Gotta get it."
