Social networking giant Twitter will launch its
premium
service on Monday , in a bid to roll out the feature a month after its previous attempt failed.
The company announced Saturday that it will allow users to sign up for Twitter Blue to get a blue checkmark on their profiles and access special mechanisms, such as posting full-length videos, seeing fewer ads, and better ranking their tweets.

The blue mark was originally awarded to companies, celebrities, government entities and journalists verified by the platform.
But after Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion in October, the company launched a service that awarded blue marks to any user willing to pay $8 a month.
The social network had to go back and suspend this service when it was overwhelmed by a large number of fake accounts, including those posing as Musk's companies -Tesla and SpaceX-, which requested this function.

In this new attempt, Twitter Blue will cost $8 a month for web users and $11 a month for iPhone users.
The company has been through a period of instability since it was taken over by Musk, who laid off half the staff just days after taking control.
As the platform explained in an email sent to the workers, this step was necessary "to ensure the success of the company in the future."
Musk's arrival at the head of Twitter also meant that a number of blocked accounts were reinstated to their users, such as that of former President Donald Trump or that of rapper Kanye West.

On the other hand, Musk promoted the publication of internal company documents in early December that supposedly reveal how Twitter covered up the scandal caused by an article in The New York Times about Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden,
This controversy dates back to October 2020, weeks before the presidential elections, when the newspaper cited an alleged email sent thanking Hunter Biden for introducing a businessman to his father, who would win the election days later.
