Yair Netanyahu, the son of opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu, today (Sunday) contacted the prosecutor's office through his lawyer, and requested that the state pay in his stead the damages awarded to him in the defamation lawsuit he lost, in the amount of NIS 400,000.

Attorney Amit Haddad, who represents Netanyahu, contacted the prosecutor's office regarding the defamation lawsuit won by Avi Alkalai, the former editor of Walla!. In 2019, Alkalai sued Yair Netanyahu, after the latter shared on social media information according to which Alkalai is a "plant of the Wexner Foundation" in Walla system with the aim of harming his father, then Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

Hadad claimed that Netanyahu Jr.'s loss in the defamation lawsuit was due to the negligence of a civil servant, who did not forward the statement of claims to the Prime Minister's residence. The court, which was approved by the Supreme Court, determined that the claim was duly served.

In the coming days, the state's answer will be given to the applicant's attorney."
