When should you clean your wood stove?
To avoid clogging, a wood stove, log stove, wood pellet stove, coal stove or pellet stove requires regular maintenance to ensure good performance.
This cleaning must be done daily during the lighting period, as for a closed wood-burning fireplace.
The ideal is to empty the ash pan and clean the glass and the interior and exterior walls of the stove every week.
In this way, you ensure optimal heating and combustion quality.

How do you maintain a stove yourself?
For optimal washing of your main heating or auxiliary heating, here are the different elements to be cleaned rigorously:
Wash the glass, as it darkens quickly from smoke and soot.
In a spray bottle, mix water, white vinegar and coarse salt.
Wet the glass and wipe with newspaper or a sponge.
You can also use a steam cleaner.
Empty the ash box (in the composter if you have one) with a metal shovel, sweep the combustion chamber and the fireplace with a brush.
There are handy ash vacuums out there, but your regular vacuum can do the trick to prevent ash buildup.
Wash the inside walls of the pans regularly, with newspaper or a cloth and a little cleaning product.
Take out and empty the burner (or crucible) and clear the holes in the bottom to ensure optimal combustion.
Clean the outer walls of the stove (whether in cast iron or stainless steel) and the ventilation with a damp sponge.
Clean and check the condition of the joints of the wood or pellet stove, to remove all residues and ensure that the heating system is properly sealed.

Tenant or owner: who should pay for the maintenance of a wood stove?
As with a fireplace, the tenant must maintain the wood stove or pellet stove on a daily basis.
