A fire that broke out in the Tierra del Fuego region in southern Argentina late last month destroyed 7,000 hectares of agricultural land.
“The fire that broke out on the 30th of November inside the Corazon de la Isla Nature Reserve is still raging, and it is a complex fire and in a place that is difficult to reach due to the constant change of wind direction,” AFP quoted the governor of the province of Tierra del Fuego, Gustavo Melilla, as saying today. About 85 firefighters fought the fire with the help of two helicopters and three water bombers, while no casualties were reported.
The summer drought and strong winds in the far south of Argentina complicate the work of the firefighters, and the weather forecast does not expect an improvement in the weather conditions in the coming days.
