Le Figaro Bordeaux
It is a place well known to Bordeaux residents, and whose future has finally been assured, after six years of suspense.
The land of
the Darwin "ecosystem
", an emblematic cultural and festive space on the right bank, will be bought by the place and by the city of Bordeaux "
in a cooperative spirit
", in order to ensure "
the joint management of this real estate assets
”, while “
leaving their exploitation to the associations
”.
The resolution was adopted unanimously.
This Tuesday, the city council of Bordeaux officially created a cooperative society of collective interest (SCIC) to buy and manage the warehouses of Darwin in which several associations are installed (in particular the skate club La Brigade and the bric- à-brac Emmaüs).
“
Darwin is an ecosystem
”, living “
within a larger and more vast ecosystem and which is called the city of Bordeaux
”, affirms the ecologist mayor, Pierre Hurmic.
Located on a concerted development zone (ZAC), the existing hangars were initially to be destroyed, in particular to allow the construction of new housing.
Prefer rehabilitation to demolition
The city of Bordeaux will participate to the tune of 1.055 million euros to allow the purchase of half of the land of these two hangars.
The same sum will be paid by the Darwin solidarity property company.
Insisting on the “ common
” role
of these spaces, which the city of Bordeaux and Darwin “
have at heart to preserve
”, the town hall specifies however that, if the associative hangars are perpetuated, “
unbuilt social housing is transferred to the rest of the ZAC
”.

Pierre Hurmic also recalls that the Darwin area is "
not only a major living space for the city and the metropolis
", but that it also contributes "
to the influence of our territory
".
He recalls that the establishment of a SCIC is in accordance with the policy pursued by the municipality: "
not to demolish to respect what is already there
", and "
always prefer rehabilitation to demolition
".
