Hong Kong Customs today (13th) conducted an anti-drug operation at a private housing estate on Tai Tong Road, Yuen Long. A man and a woman were arrested. A drug distribution storage warehouse disguised as an expensive private housing estate was smashed. In the residence in Tin Shui Wai, some drugs were recovered, and the total market value of the drugs seized in the case was about 2.17 million yuan.

Fang Ziyang, the investigation director of the third team of the Narcotics Investigation Division, said that customs officers stopped and searched an 18-year-old local man within the housing estate today, and seized about 1 kilogram of suspected crack cocaine in a paper bag held by him, and then arrested the man.

Afterwards, the officers escorted the man to the above-mentioned housing estate unit that he rented for investigation, and seized about 550 grams of suspected marijuana flowers and a batch of packaging tools. The officers arrested a 17-year-old local woman in the unit.

Officers then went to the man's residence in Tin Shui Wai to investigate, and also seized about 1.6 kilograms of suspected marijuana flower and 155 grams of suspected crack cocaine, with a total market value of about 2.17 million yuan.

Fang Ziyang continued to point out that both of them reported being unemployed, and their relationship is still under investigation. The man has a triad background, and the private housing unit involved is believed to be rented by the arrested man at the beginning of this month. The unit is mainly used as a drug storage warehouse, For packaging and distribution purposes, the drugs are supplied to the local market. The case does not rule out the arrest of more people.

The Customs has noticed that drug trafficking syndicates have recently used heavily guarded expensive private housing estates for drug trafficking in an attempt to increase the difficulty of law enforcement.

Customs reiterates that trafficking in dangerous drugs is a serious crime. According to the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance (Chapter 134 of the Laws of Hong Kong), the maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of HK$5 million and life imprisonment.
