A clash is said to have broken out between Indian and Chinese troops in the border area last Friday.
Indian troops prevented Chinese troops from entering Indian territory on December 9, India's Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said in parliament.
A fight ensued, in which forces were injured on both sides.
According to the information, the dispute took place in the Tawang sector of the north-eastern Indian Himalayan state of Arunachal Pradesh, which borders on China's south.
The People's Liberation Army troops tried to "unilaterally change the status quo," Singh said. "Our army has opposed this attempt by China with determination." The Indian troops prevented the Chinese People's Liberation Army forces from entering the area and they forced to retire to their posts.
India reports injuries
"Some soldiers from both sides were injured in the skirmish," Singh said.
On the Indian side, however, there are no serious injuries or even deaths.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said only that the situation on the India-China border was "generally stable".
China and India fought a war over their 3,500-kilometer border in 1962, which China won.
Since then there have been repeated incidents.
The boundary line is still unclear.
Beijing claims about 90,000 square kilometers of territory controlled by New Delhi.
Tensions in the border region have been increasing for years.
Deadly clashes erupted between the two countries in June when Indian and Chinese forces skirmished in Ladakh's Galwan Valley, which borders the Chinese-held Tibetan Plateau.
20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese soldiers were killed in the clash.
In January 2021 there were violent border disputes again.
