2022-12-13T12:28:58.233Z

400 people who participated in the protest in Tehran were sent to prison for one to ten years • Only 70 protesters received fines • Estimate: many hundreds more were arrested and imprisoned in other parts of the country

Heavy prison sentences were imposed on many hundreds of Iranian citizens who participated in the mass protest against the regime in the capital Tehran, but the spirit of the demonstrators was not broken.

Iran's Chief Justice, Ali Alkasi, referred to the number of cases opened in the country's capital against protesters, since the protests began on September 16.

According to Alkasi, 160 people who took part - according to the authorities' version - in the public protest, were sentenced to 5-10 years in prison, reports "Maher News", a news agency close to the regime.

Another 80 protesters were sentenced to two to five years in prison, 160 to up to two years in prison and 70 citizens were fined by the authorities of the Islamic Republic.

It should be noted that the demonstrations, which continue even these days, are being held in many parts of Iran apart from the capital Tehran, so that according to estimates the total number of protesters sent to prison in the country is much higher.

As you may recall, the demonstrations in the Islamic Republic began on September 16 after the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old young woman who was arrested by the regime's modesty police after she did not cover her upper body with the traditional hijab.

Amini later died in the hospital as a result of the beatings she received from the security personnel.
