Marco Sailer has been working at the adult education center in Peißenberg since October 1st and has been its director since December 1st.

The 46-year-old was selected from eleven applicants, as he revealed in an interview with the local newspaper in the VHS office in the Rigi Center.

Peißenberg – "I saw this job and thought I'd apply there," says Marco Sailer, who is a trained businessman and later studied social education.

Most recently, he worked in the integration service for people with mental and psychological disabilities and held a management position.

Before that, he worked in open youth work for a long time and planned many events.

What appealed to him about the task of managing the adult education center (VHS) in Peißenberg was that he had the opportunity to carry out his work independently, but there was still a fixed framework and he was part of a small team.

"And I've always enjoyed working in a team," says Sailer: "I think the job that the VHS has is nice and you can be creative."

Sailer can easily reconcile the new job with his family

The fact that he has a 34-hour position as head of the adult education center in Peißenberg also suits him privately.

Sailer lives in Iffeldorf, has two children and shares childcare with his ex-wife.

The new position is easy to reconcile with his family.

What also spoke for an application is that he is familiar with municipal structures from his previous work.

"A lot of things just fell into place," says the new director.

He can't say too much about his new position yet, but he already knows that he enjoys his new job: "I like coming here." He was warmly welcomed and the new environment would make it easy for him to fully to get used to and arrive.

"Everyone is approachable," says Sailer.

Get used to it first

The beautiful rooms in which the VHS Peißenberg is housed are fortunate: "We have great premises here," says the new VHS director.

In the two months that his predecessor, Mechthild Merz, was still on duty with him, he was able to familiarize himself with the job well.

As reported, Merz managed the VHS Peißenberg for around 19 years and started the passive phase of her partial retirement in December.

For Sailer, the first thing is to get used to the adult education center in Peißenberg, to get to know everyone.

"I'm learning a lot right now," he says.

In the long run, he would like to see more young people interested in VHS again.

He could also imagine other forms of learning than frontal teaching or cooperation with the schools.

But before he wants to start new things or change existing ones, he would like to wait: "First of all, I would like to take part in a year-long cycle."
