Things are now moving quickly on the Harzberg in Miesbach: Preparations for the felling work with the truck-mounted crane were made on Friday and work started on Monday.
As reported, 19 trees are being removed there that are so damaged by sunburn and fungal infestation that they pose a safety risk.
Thanks to the good weather, the work has progressed quickly so far.
A total of four to five days are expected for the precipitation.
The freezing rain announced for today doesn't fit into the plan at all.
There will probably be a forced break.
Wood is processed - despite ALB
But the work is not done with felling alone.
The trunks and branches are then transported down to the Waitzinger Wiese.
There, where the collection point for wood that comes from the Miesbach quarantine zone of the Asian longhorned beetle (ALB) is located, material is sniffed by special detection dogs and then chopped up.
Local heating benefits
The wood chips are then burned in close proximity.
The city of Miesbach has applied for permission to use the wood for the combined heat and power plant on the Waitzinger Wiese.
As reported, the neighborhood on the Harzberg reacted with protests to the felling of the trees, which the city council had only recently decided to do.
As a result, there was an on-site meeting at the Harzberg, where the city, experts and residents exchanged ideas.
Nevertheless, the decision to fell the 19 trees remained.
