The People's Assembly, in its 30th session of the seventh regular session of the third legislative session, held today, chaired by Speaker Hamouda Sabbagh, discussed the performance of the Ministry of Education and issues related to its work.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabaa, presented to the Council what has been achieved since the beginning of this year, stressing that an integrated plan has been adopted to prevent the spread of communicable diseases in schools, implement the health protocol in them, and provide sterilization materials such as chlorine, detergents and filtered water, and distribute them to schools. The Ministry of Oral and Dental Medicine provides more than 2 million health care services through fixed, mobile and portable clinics.

Minister Tabbaa indicated that more than 200,000 students benefited from the comprehensive medical examination program and 90,000 students from the preventive treatment program, and many training courses were held for doctors and dentists working in the school health directorates, explaining that the authorship of teacher preparation curricula for English, French and sciences was completed. General and mathematics institutes were reopened in some centers where there are no teachers, with a commitment to appointing them after their graduation.

The Minister of Education confirmed that vocational guidance books for the fourth, fifth and sixth grades have been completed, and applied experimentally in four governorates to develop awareness and direct inclinations towards vocational education, and to start a project to adopt the “Better Learning” program in cooperation with the Norwegian Council and “UNICEF”, to support learners psychologically and educationally. And studying the causes of the phenomenon of youth and brain drain and its negative repercussions on society, while proposing solutions in cooperation with a number of ministries to reduce them.

Minister Tabbaa also presented a detailed and printed report to the Council on all the detailed work carried out by the Ministry, including figures and data that show the extent of the Ministry's commitment to the government statement and its implementation of priorities in terms of continuing to support the educational system, and working to raise its level in quantity and quality, in order to keep pace with international standards and indicators to achieve Linking education to the labor market, and improving the quality of the educational process.

He expressed his thanks to male and female teachers for the great efforts they make in the education process, despite the difficult circumstances the country is going through, and for their prominent role in continuing the educational process.

In their interventions, a number of members called for improving the standard of living for workers in the educational sector, raising compensation for supervision and correction of teachers, granting them an allowance for transportation wages according to the distance of schools from their place of residence, activating libraries in schools and providing them with books for all age stages, and securing transportation to transport students and observers to examination centers. during exams.

The members pointed out the need to create more schools for the outstanding students, especially in the liberated countryside, and to increase school allocations of heating oil in colder areas, and to cooperate with the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection to secure educational supplies for students at reduced prices, and to secure alternative energy for lighting and e-learning in schools. And salaries for teachers from the town of Ras al-Ayn in al-Hasakah, due to the material and financial difficulties of their transportation. Some also called for a tour of schools in Daraa governorate to see the reality of the educational process there.

The members emphasized the importance of reconsidering the nature of work for school administrators, given the reluctance to assign administrative tasks, raise hourly wages for those charged with teaching, announce a new competition for teachers with all specialties, including class teacher, and give wide powers to educational complexes, especially those far from the concerned Directorate of Education. More than 70 kilometers, and holding training courses for agents whose days of service have reached a thousand days, taking into account the conditions of residency and age.

In his response to the interventions, the Minister of Education explained that a legislative instrument had been prepared to raise compensation for correction and supervision, and that work is continuing to prepare legislation that supports teachers and the educational process, including those related to incentives and others, in addition to the efforts made to secure housing for teachers in remote areas, indicating that 4 million have been distributed.
