The Iranian authorities thwarted an arms smuggling operation near the borders of the city of Marivan in the Kurdistan Province, west of the country.
The Iranian border guards said in a statement that "a shipment of weapons containing 49 weapons has been seized."
The police chief of West Azerbaijan, northwestern Iran, Rahim Jahanbakhsh, announced yesterday the elimination of an arms smuggling gang, and the seizure of 70 illegal military and hunting weapons in the northwestern city of Urmia.
