Disruptions may occur on the A9 between the Holledau interchange and the Allershausen junction until the end of February 2023.

The reason: wood maintenance.

Allershausen

– Since last week, measures to care for trees have been carried out in both directions in the area of the A9 between the Holledau motorway triangle and the Allershausen junction.

The work is expected to continue until the end of February 2023.

They are divided into individual sections, with maintenance sections and unprocessed sections alternating - leaving the young stock intact.

The responsible nature conservation authorities, such as the responsible Autobahn GmbH Südbayern, were informed.

It is also announced that in the course of the work there may be occasional "lane closures and the associated traffic obstructions".

Basically, care is taken not to put the work in the times of rush hour.

background of the measures

The measures for caring for trees are carried out to maintain traffic safety, but also to preserve the ecological functions of the hedges and trees.

A tiered hedge structure serves as protection against wind, snow and erosion.

The Autobahn Südbayern is fundamentally responsible for the stability of the trees on its properties.

In addition, the measures are necessary to protect buildings and underground lines from damage caused by roots or to ensure the required stopping visibility.

In the dense stands of trees along the motorways, which mostly consist of bushes and trees, the proportion of trees is often too high and too dense.

The stand shoots up, while there is a lack of light underground.

This means that trees and shrubs cannot develop properly and are suppressed.

The result: the stock is bare.

This means: dry, dry branches determine the subsoil and this becomes species-poor.

Excessively dense stands of tree-like trees are therefore thinned out during the maintenance work.

Individual trees are released so that they can develop better and form a stable framework.

Even where trees and shrubs are planted, i.e. only cut a few centimeters above the ground,

Valuable for insects, flowers and herbs

Especially for insects there is already a new, extensive food supply in the spring, since the seed flight on the cleared areas allows flowers and herbs to grow again, which could never germinate in the dense undergrowth.

The bushes will also sprout again.

As explained in the press release, this will preserve the structural diversity of the trees and provide a habitat for birds and small animals.

In addition, the proportion of the rare and ecologically particularly valuable biotope type "standing deadwood" (torso) is increased at a suitable point.

This torso provides an important habitat for insects, birds and bats, among others.

The press release concludes with an appeal: "We ask road users and affected residents for their understanding of the unavoidable work."
