Zelenskyj was once the most famous comedian in Ukraine, today he is the president.

In an interview with US moderator Letterman, he unpacked his joke again and took aim at Putin.

Kiev - With the Ukraine war, an ex-comedian became one of the most important figures in world politics: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj.

He rose to fame as an actor on the comedy sitcom Servant of the People, and has now been named

Zelenskyj jokes at Putin's expense - "Laughter helps us not to go crazy"

At the latest after Vladimir Putin's invasion of his country, humor no longer plays a major role in the life of the former joker: Zelenskyj, like the rest of the Ukrainians, has to deal with the cruel reality of a war.

Since then, the Ukrainian President has been encouraging his people in video messages every day, always with a serious expression and deep worry lines on his forehead.

The fact that Selenskyj has kept his sense of humor has now been shown in an interview with US talk show legend David Letterman.

"Laughter helps us not to go crazy," said the Ukrainian President in the conversation.

Selenskyj tells war jokes and thus takes aim at Putin's propaganda

Letterman met Zelenskyy in the safest place in Kiev: 90 meters underground where a makeshift television studio was set up in a metro station.

Some of the talking was accompanied by the howling of air raid alarms.

The host of the Netflix talk show "My next guest" managed to elicit a lot of personal things from Selenskyj even under these gloomy circumstances - and even a joke.

It was a black war joke about two Jews in Odessa that goes like this:

  • Two Jews meet in Odessa.

One asks: "And how is the situation, what do you talk about?"

  • "What do you say?

They say there's war,” says the other Jew.

  • “What war?” asks the first.

"Russia is at war with NATO," replies the second.

  • “And how is the war going?” the first Jew wants to know.

"Well, the Russians lost 70,000 soldiers, used up all the missiles and destroyed a lot of military equipment."

  • “And how is it going at NATO?” asks the first.

The second replies: "What about NATO?

    NATO has not arrived yet.”

Russia's propaganda sees itself at war with NATO

Zelenskyj's joke is aimed at the fact that according to Russian propaganda, Russia is not only waging a war against Ukraine, but is fighting the entire NATO, which allegedly threatens Russia's existence.

In the Ukraine war, NATO has so far only relied on financial support for the attacked country and the delivery of weapons, and has repeatedly emphasized that it does not want to become an active war party.

However, a secret network of the US foreign intelligence service CIA supports the Ukrainian troops.
