If you want to enjoy your camping holiday despite the ice and snow, you should be well prepared - and ideally reserve a pitch months in advance.

Winter camping is like any holiday - it needs to be well planned.

Important: book a parking space in good time.

It's best to do this months in advance, experts advise.

Because there are not that many winter parking spaces.

Many winter campsites are fully booked especially at Christmas, New Year's Eve or during the ski holidays during Carnival.

You should also be well prepared for the journey itself.

Above all, beginners among winter campers should think about the right equipment and the right accessories so that the holiday does not end ugly in the cold.

1. Don't forget snow chains and snow shovels

Anyone who goes skiing in the Alps already knows it: don't forget snow chains in the vehicle.

The www.camping.info

portal advises

all winter camping fans to use shovels, snow shovels, brooms and ladders to help clear snow and ice from the vehicle and plot.

2. Provide protection against the cold on the vehicle

"Thermal mats on the windows ensure good insulation of the driver's cab," the statement also says.

"Other areas, such as the refrigerator grille, the trailer hitch or the storage box for the gas cylinders, should be covered with winter covers and protective tarpaulins in order to store as much heat as possible in the vehicle."

3. Plan for liquid gas in reserve

In order not to freeze after skiing in sub-zero temperatures, campers should “plan far more gas than in summer”, advises the portal.

On average, a 11kg bottle will last about three to four days with permanent heating.

Attention: “Butane gas loses its combustibility at temperatures below zero and is therefore not suitable for heating and cooking in winter.

Campers should look for a higher proportion of propane in the mixed gas.”

4. Take a winter-proof awning against the cold

A "cool hack" for a winter camping holiday is, as the portal

camperboys.de

also describes, the awning.

“Here you can hang up your wet clothes and store your skis.

You can also brush off the snow here or take off your shoes without the interior of your camper getting wet.

The awning also serves as a heat lock in the entrance area.

5. Don't forget the battery

With some camper models, the battery drains faster in winter, so another important note.

Therefore, you should make sure that the camper is regularly connected to the electricity at the pitch.

"You should also note that in winter you need light in the camper earlier than in summer or that the auxiliary heating runs more often." This means that more electricity is consumed.

If the camper is connected to the electricity, you should make sure, according to the provider, “that the power cable cannot break when clearing snow”.
