You will have to watch the match at home or in a bar.
Even if France finds itself in the final of the Football World Cup, the city of Bordeaux will not set up a giant screen or "
fan zone
" during the next matches.
The reason: a boycott of Qatar, the country organizing the event.
This was recalled by the mayor of Bordeaux, Pierre Hurmic, questioned on this subject by the elected opposition representative Nicolas Florian, during the municipal council on Tuesday, December 13.
"
Apart from you, no Bordelais asked me
," joked the city councilor.
Nicolas Florian, former assistant to Alain Juppé, recalls that in 2018, the municipality had set up a giant screen at the Chaban-Delmas stadium.
In the summer of 2016, a "
fan zone
" was also set up at Place des Quinconces for Euro matches.
Asking for "
a festive place and a place for large-scale dissemination
", Nicolas Florian also believes that this centralization would facilitate "
human management
", thanks to an identified place, "
rather than an addition of places in the city, whose inconveniences we sometimes know
".

"
Convictions are not negotiable
", electrified Pierre Hurmic, questioned more than once on this subject.
The city councilor recalled the "
contempt for human rights, the conditions of women, LGBT people
" on the part of Qatar, as well as "
the thousands of corpses buried
under air-conditioned stadiums
".
Whether France is in the final or not, the mayor of Bordeaux therefore underlined his “
determination of condemnation and boycott
” towards this Arab country, to the applause of his majority.
