141 people have been killed as a result of floods and mudslides caused by torrential rains in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Xinhua quoted the local authorities as saying today in a statement, "The heavy rains that fell during the past two days caused mudslides and floods that swept through several areas in the city of Kinshasa, killing 141 people, damaging 38,787 families and collapsing about 280 houses after the main streets in the city center were flooded." .
A previous toll indicated that 55 people were killed as a result of the floods.
