Sun Yuhan pointed out in her reply that in order to provide comprehensive, up-to-date and easily accessible information to the elderly and caregivers of the disabled, the SWD expects to set up a one-stop information website by the end of 2023, in addition to covering existing services for the elderly and the disabled In addition to community resources, there will also be hotline services provided by other non-government organizations to encourage carers to seek help when necessary.

The SWD will also launch a three-year publicity campaign starting from 2023-24. It will co-organize a series of carer-centred projects and public education activities with different stakeholders. The publicity hotline service will also be strengthened.

In addition, the SWD will commission NGOs to set up a 24-hour carer support hotline to provide the latest information on community resources, instant consultation and counselling, outreach, emergency support and referral services.

The dedicated line service is expected to be put into operation in the third quarter of 2023.

Only 30% of calls to seek assistance from social workers

Sun Yuhan also pointed out that the SWD hotline 2343 2255 provides 24-hour services for citizens in need, including welfare service information inquiries, social worker counseling and consultation services, and referral services.

In the past three years and the first nine months of this year, the hotline has received a total of more than 140,000 calls, of which inquiries about welfare service information accounted for the majority, with more than 96,000 cases, and those seeking social work services accounted for only about 30% (45,000) Zong.

He also pointed out that the SWD provides counseling and consultation services to citizens in need during office hours.

As for non-office hours, members of the public may choose to transfer their calls to the hotline subsidized by the SWD and operated by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals for social worker counseling and consultation.

Social workers of SWD and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals will refer cases requiring follow-up or seeking welfare services to relevant SWD or NGO service units.

The staff establishment and general on-duty staff of SWD's hotline service are 10 people; the estimated staff establishment of TWGHs hotline and outreach service team is 12 people.
