EU approves millions in aid to Germany for flood damage

The European Parliament has approved the payment of more than 600 million euros to Germany to deal with the flood damage of the past year.
Of the 718.5 million euros from the EU solidarity fund, Germany should receive 612.6 million euros, the EU Parliament decided on Wednesday in Strasbourg.
Belgium, which was also hit by severe flooding, is to receive 87.7 million euros.
Strasbourg - The Netherlands, Austria and Luxembourg are also receiving financial aid to cushion the consequences of the devastating floods last summer.
Spain is to be paid 9.5 million euros in connection with the volcanic eruption on La Palma, and 1.4 million euros in Greece because of the earthquake in Crete.
