Are German climate activists “terrorists”?
In a country that has become a sanctuary for Friday for Futures student gatherings, where freedom of assembly is a cardinal value protected by the Constitution and where the environmental vice-chancellor promises carbon neutrality by 2035, the debate is launched following the actions of the Last Generation movement (Letzte Generation).
Followers of stunt intended to sensitize the population in front
of "the imminence of the climatic catastrophe"
, their members are suspected of forming a
"criminal organization"
, the Brandenburg public prosecutor's office, sitting in Neuruppin, confirmed on Wednesday.
The day before, the judicial institution had conducted a nationwide search, in no less than eight Länder, at the homes of around thirty environmental activists.
The operation was welcomed by the Conservative Party (CDU), which calls for tougher legislation against the environmental movement, but it embarrasses the Greens
