The people of Mörlbach want more peace and quiet from the autobahn.

The responsible Autobahn GmbH doesn't do anything at first - because it's not loud enough.

After all, a new road surface should ensure less noise in 2025/26.

Mörlbach

- There is not much that the Autobahn GmbH des Bundes offers to the municipality of Berg to make it a little quieter in Mörlbach.

The Autobahn GmbH rejects a night-time speed limit, as well as noise protection walls.

However, things could get quieter in 2025/26, when the road surface is paved: Autobahn GmbH promises to use noise-reducing asphalt when renovating the roadway.

The Berger district of Mörlbach is located in the easternmost tip of the Starnberg district and can only be reached via narrow streets.

To get onto the A95 motorway, you have to drive around six kilometers to the Wolfratshausen junction or around eight kilometers to the Schäftlarn motorway exit.

The direct route would be closer: The A95 is in the immediate vicinity of Mörlbach.

The easternmost house in the district is only 150 meters away.

The noise of the passing cars is therefore noticeable, and the people of Mörlbach would like some relief, at least at night.

That's why they asked Berg's mayor, Rupert Steigenberger, to explore what's possible.

Little to nothing, it turns out.

Steigenberger has inquired and checked with the federal Autobahn GmbH responsible, but things don't look good.

The traffic on the motorway is not loud enough at night, so no measures are necessary on the part of the federal government.

Values are not sufficient for speed limit

Speed limits for noise protection reasons can only be ordered if the traffic noise exceeds a guideline value of 70 dB(A) during the day and 60 dB(A) at night, writes Autobahn GmbH to the municipality of Berg.

That is not the case in Mörlbach.

There was also no accident focus in the Mörlbach motorway area.

Thus, "there is no legal basis for traffic-restricting measures for reasons of traffic safety," it continues.

According to the letter, a new surface that reduces emissions and also ensures greater safety through better drainage is planned for the years 2025/26 as part of maintenance measures.

"We hope that, on a voluntary basis on the part of Autobahn GmbH, we will improve the noise situation for the municipality of Berg and explicitly for the district of Mörlbach," writes the director of the southern Bavarian branch of Autobahn GmbH, Michael Kordon.

However, an earlier start of construction of the Mörlbach section is not possible - other areas have priority, Kordon makes clear.

Autobahn GmbH gave a friendly but unequivocal rejection of the idea of building a noise protection wall.

"Noise protection walls are ruled out because the triggering limit values are not reached here either," the letter says.

"So noise remediation measures as a voluntary service by the federal government will also be eliminated."
