Like mushrooms after elections in which the right wins, protests, petitions, expressions of opinion pop up here and there.
This is a regular ceremony, part of the protocol.
With the publication of the truth results, the shadow of the end of democracy falls on citizens worried about the left bloc and fear takes over.
Notices and signs with the names or signatures of academics, cultural figures, generals, CEOs and governors are offered to many and distributed in every possible way to the Israeli citizen, who has just finished making his voice heard.
Perhaps his voice would have sounded differently if he had read a petition signed by a respected player or superintendent who can't keep quiet.
The prophecies of rage and cries of protest were joined last week by a new-old group, the "Robe Protest".
The name may evoke the aroma of a noble order of knights from the Middle Ages, but in practice it is several hundred lawyers who declare themselves to be senior and use the familiar arsenal of billboards, apocalyptic documents and countless interviews to warn us, the laymen without the robes, about "the coalition agreements that are taking shape and reflect a desire to break up the Democracy and Israeli society".
Already after the first round in 2019, the Black Cloaks emerged in the face of the danger of forming a right-wing government, which, as I remember, did not finally arise due to Lieberman's defection and the fall of Bennett's "New Right".
It is not clear why these lawyers are called seniors and who appointed them to such a position, but it is clear that their self-perception as seniors expresses a mindset in which the fact that they have completed law school and have an ironed cloak placed in their closet makes them uplifted from the people, those who are supposed to educate us, the public.
The shallow perception of a few hundred is smarter and much more important than 64 mandates, and certainly has a higher weight than the election results.
But beyond the detached elitism there is also a numerical matter.
According to the data of the Central Bureau of Statistics, as of 2019, about 70 thousand people were qualified to practice law in Israel;
The years that have passed since the publication of the figure put the number at close to 80 thousand: one out of every 128 Israeli citizens is a lawyer, one of the highest figures in the world.
And yet, several hundred attorneys took upon themselves the right to decide that their opinion is the representative one, the one that reflects what is happening under the cloak.
Who authorized them to speak on behalf of colleagues in the profession?
Do they really represent a popular opinion among jurists?
It is impossible to know, but what does all this matter when the same legal authority in charge consists of "seniors", that means everything, the case is closed.
The robes protest is not acting alone and declares that it will act in cooperation with the Bar Association, whose chairman Avi Hami has already spoken out in a radical way against the government that has not yet been formed, "They want to turn us into Hungary", he said and called to take to the streets, while he also assumes authority and power that he was never given to speak in her name and turn the Bar Association into a political party.
The cloak protest is the explanation for the left's loss.
The condescension, the patronage and the thought that a lawyer's license and access to the media are worth more than a ballot paper, and that there is no escape but to replace the people.
And who is better suited to do this than lawyers.
Seniors, of course.
