Scammers keep trying to rob seniors in the region of their savings with so-called shock calls.

Now the police have arrested several money collectors.

Huglfing - The last few days have been characterized by a large number of fraudulent calls in southern Upper Bavaria.

However, the Kripo also reports a success: In Huglfing and Mittenwald, on Wednesday, December 13, 2022, two money collectors were found red-handed and arrested.

A third was arrested after two successful handovers of money in Munich while dropping off in the Burgau / Swabia area.

High-quality jewelry, gold coins and cash were seized from the three.

All three are now in custody.

The Criminal Police Inspectorate with central tasks of the Police Headquarters Oberbayern Süd, KPI (Z) Oberbayern Süd for short, conducts the police investigations in numerous call center fraud procedures.

According to a press release, these are often difficult in this area of phenomena.

In many cases, the call center from which the calls to the victims are made is located abroad.

Affected victims, mostly older people, often report to the police too late, so that those collecting them and the assets handed over are literally "over the mountains".

Over 140 shock calls within two days - in just two counties

According to the Oberbayern Süd police headquarters, last Monday and Tuesday (December 12 and 13, 2022) there were over 140 such (reported) fraudulent calls in the districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Rosenheim alone.

Warning messages were published via the Internet and radio for both bank branches and the general public.

Unfortunately, an elderly woman from the Rosenheim area fell victim to the scammers.

She got a call that her daughter had caused a serious traffic accident and one person was killed.

In the background, the supposed daughter was crying and asking for help.

A deposit of 120,000 euros was demanded from the scammers.

Ultimately, yesterday afternoon, December 13, she handed over 25,000 euros in cash to the supposed "public prosecutor".

The scam is not new.

Fraudsters had already tried it with a castle general, for example.

She describes her experiences.

Intensive search measures successful

After intensive search measures by the KPI (Z) Oberbayern Süd, together with the GPI Murnau, KPI Weilheim, forces from the Munich police headquarters and in close consultation with neighboring colleagues from Tyrol, a 34-year-old and a 21-year-old Polish national were able to escape in Huglfing and .Mittenwald be arrested.

A third 38-year-old Pole was arrested by forces from the Munich police headquarters in the Burgau area.

He had previously stolen a total of 220,000 euros from two cash pickups in Munich.

All three were arrested immediately after the money, jewelery and valuables had been handed over.

A total of over 220,000 euros in cash, around 1.5 kilograms of Krugerrand gold coins and over 600 grams of high-quality gold jewelery were seized.

The responsible public prosecutor's office in Munich II filed an application for arrest for all three suspects.

On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, they were brought before the investigating judge.

He issued a pre-trial arrest warrant for everyone.

They were transferred to correctional facilities.

The police never tire of warning of these perfidious scams over and over again and urgently recommend:

  • Do not allow yourself to be put under pressure, not even by allegedly urgent investigations, e.g.

    B. to a burglary in the vicinity or an urgent deposit to be paid!
