IN PICTURES - 21 departments are on orange alert for snowfall this Wednesday, December 14, according to La Chaîne Météo.

Part of France woke up to snow this Wednesday, December 14.

Unsurprisingly, because announced many times, the snowflakes sprinkled Brittany, Normandy, Île-de-France and the Grand Est.

These departments were part of the 21 announced in orange vigilance by La Chaîne Météo*.

Between 2 and 5 centimeters of snow were expected from Brittany to the northeast of the country, before temperatures that do not exceed 2 degrees.

In

Île-de-France

, a thin white film was visible in the early morning, including in the capital.

The most famous monuments in Paris were covered with a thin layer that began to melt at first light.

Normandy , in

orange

vigilance, also woke up covered in a white coat.

Instead of the 10 centimeters of snow expected, it was finally some 2 or 3 centimeters that fell, especially in the Orne.

In the cities of Caen or Évreux, the inhabitants were amazed to discover a thin layer of snow, rather unusual in the region.

In Deauville too, the boards by the sea, deserted in this winter season, were covered in white at daybreak.

After a pre-salting the day before, the patrollers returned this morning to secure the roads.

School bus service has been suspended.

On

the eastern

side , the Moselle also woke up to large snowflakes.

The falls have made traffic difficult on the tracks.

Several accidents have been reported, particularly on the A4 motorway linking Alsace and Lorraine.

In

Rhône-Alpes

, the day before, it was the city of Lyon which had woken up dressed in white.

The streets of the agglomeration were covered with 1 to 2 centimeters of snow, making the sidewalks dangerously slippery... because they were not salty.

All buses remained at a standstill until 10:30 a.m., and several school bus lines were suspended.

Same thing in Grenoble, where it fell... 10 centimeters, twice what the weather forecast had announced!

Traffic conditions were complicated Tuesday morning in the metropolis and on the roads of the department of Isère.

Many trains were canceled or delayed.

In the mountains, the heavy snow arrived on Tuesday morning.

Haute-Savoie

has been on orange alert since Monday evening at midnight

.

The falls caused traditional disturbances, including in Annecy where more than 5 centimeters covered sidewalks and cars on Tuesday morning.

In Normandy, Île-de-France and Grand Est, the prefectures have called for vigilance as new falls are expected in the morning.

It is sometimes freezing rain that falls on the south of the area, warned the Weather Channel.

We expect a layer of snow of 1 to 5 cm on average, on the Normandy hills and the Lorraine plateaus.

These snows should sprinkle the landscapes all day long.
