Freezing rain caused chaos in the district on Wednesday.

Rescue workers were in constant use.

Many pedestrians fell on mirror-smooth paths.

Sometimes nothing worked on the freeways.

Fürstenfeldbruck – The German Weather Service had already warned of severe freezing rain in the region on Tuesday.

And the meteorologists should be right.

Rain set in early in the morning with temperatures above freezing.

The drops froze immediately on the ground and covered cars, streets and paths with a thick layer of ice.

This was fatal to pedestrians in particular.

Freezing rain: BRK boss drives the ambulance himself

The rescue workers could hardly keep up with the collection of fallen people.

The Red Cross was deployed with all available forces.

Four additional vehicles - staffed by volunteers - also moved out.

Even Rainer Bertram, district manager of the BRK and trained paramedic, moved out with an ambulance.

The helpers mainly had to deal with fractures and bruises.

Bertram's conclusion: "That's very unusual."

Freezing rain: Many suffer fractures in their wrists

Many of the unlucky people ended up in the emergency room of the district clinic in Fürstenfeldbruck.

In the early afternoon, the head of the emergency room, Marian Poetzsch, already counted 30 injured people who had been knocked out from under their feet.

Half of them had fractures.

"Mostly on the wrist or the feet," explains Poetzsch.

Peter Rapp from the Integrated Control Center (ILS) also spoke of an above-average number of operations.

That's where the emergency calls come in.

Freezing rain: A96 totally iced over

The freezing rain also caused chaos on the motorways.

In the afternoon, the responsible traffic police in Fürstenfeldbruck already recorded more than ten accidents on the A 96 near Germering and west of it.

At this point, there had already been four rattling noises on the Eschenrieder Spange.

A spokesman reported "totally icy" lanes.

After all: It remained with sheet metal damage.

The Fürstenfeldbruck police only registered one accident due to ice until the afternoon.

In Moorenweis, a car left the icy district road at around 2:15 p.m.

And a traffic sign that was knocked over in the city of Fürstenfeldbruck on Wednesday morning may also be related to the freezing rain, a spokesman said.

Freezing rain: Spreading service in continuous use

In order to keep the roads reasonably passable, the gritting services in the district were already deployed early on Wednesday morning.

"We're working with everything we have," reported Germering's deputy building yard manager, Michael Seeholzer, in the afternoon.

Because of the freezing rain, the employees also salted side roads - this usually only happens on larger roads.

Christmas market and recycling centers too

Because of the dangerous situation, the Germeringer Christkindlmarkt was also closed on Wednesday.

The city had decided after a site visit and consultation with the dealer representative.

In the afternoon, visitors to the recycling centers also stood in front of closed gates.

The waste management company of the district (AWB) had decided to close the disposal points.

According to AWB manager Stefan Mayer, the reason was the icy metal stairs on the containers.

"Salt wouldn't help either, it would just fail," says Mayer.

It was still unclear on Wednesday whether the recycling depots would reopen on Thursday.

Stefan Mayer advises getting more information at www.awb-ffb.de.

That was the first report from the afternoon

After a site visit and consultation with the retailer's representative, the

Christkindlmarkt

in Germering will be closed today, December 14th, due to black ice.

This is announced by the city of Germering.

“Please take extra care of yourself in this weather!” it continues.

The

district clinic

in Fürstenfeldbruck reports on various broken bones due to falls.

Young and older people are equally affected.

Pedestrians also slipped in rows in Germering, a police spokesman reported.

Various accidents are reported from the

motorways

around Fürstenfeldbruck - among other things, there was a crash on the A96 near Germering.

Stray services are constantly on the move - just like the rescue workers of the

Bavarian Red Cross

.

One mission follows the next.

There are so many that even the managing director is on the road himself.

(report follows).

The German Weather Service is currently warning of black ice until 4 p.m
