The corneas of Elin Ehud, the three-year-old who was killed in the collapse of a safety fence in Ness Ziona last week, were transplanted today (Wednesday) into the eyes of an 11-year-old and a 30-year-old.
According to the National Transplant Center, one cornea was transplanted into an 11-year-old boy at Schneider Hospital and the other cornea into a woman in the 30s She lives in Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva.
"As soon as Elin's death was determined, her father asked to donate organs and save a life," said Tova Hakhun, the transplant coordinator at the Shamir Medical Center.
"It's exciting every time to feel the nobility of spirit of families, who, in spite of every cruel death, think to save the lives of others."
Dr. Uri Elbaz from the Ophthalmology Unit at the Schneider Pediatric Center of the Klalit Group said: "We were very excited when a cornea donation was found for our patient, who critically needed it due to a genetic disease that severely impairs the eyes.
The closeness of the transplant to the Hanukkah holiday is symbolic, especially when it comes to the transition from darkness to light.
