There was no electric light, no refrigerator and no landline telephone.

Thousands of people in two districts of Ludwigsburg waited for hours for electricity.

Ludwigsburg – In Ludwigsburg, the power went out twice in quick succession.

According to a police spokesman on Wednesday, the first power outage began around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon and lasted a little over two hours.

According to Stadtwerke Ludwigsburg-Kornwestheim GmbH, the reason for this was a ground fault in the network area, which became a short circuit and led to the faulty circuit being automatically switched off.

Around 5,000 citizens in the Oßweil district and in some streets of Hoheneck were affected.

Ground faults are disturbances in an electrical circuit and occur when an electrical conductor has a connection to earth or a grounded part.

If there is also another ground within the circuit, a short circuit can also occur.

The second power outage followed early Wednesday morning and lasted around an hour.

According to the municipal utility, the reason for this was a ground fault caused by a short circuit - again in Oßweil and Hoheneck.

Around 16,000 residents were temporarily without electricity.

"The two power outages in Oßweil and Hoheneck are not due to a power shortage, but to technical disruptions that can unfortunately occur in this weather situation with very cold temperatures.

Other parts of the city were not affected," said Stefan Pruß, head of the power grids department.
