Fast charging stations for electric cars are still rare in the region.

In this regard, Peiting was also a blank spot on the map.

But now LEW has put the first fast charger into operation in the market town.

Another one could follow soon.

Peiting – Wolfram Deutschmann is standing happily next to his Hyundai Kona in the parking lot of the former girls' school in Peiting.

A thick, black cable leads from the car to a large box, which quickly attracts curious glances from passers-by with its glowing LEDs and large screen.

But it is above all the inner values that inspire the e-car driver.

40 kilowatts of charging power, as can be read on the monitor, flow into the Stromer's battery - significantly more than Deutschmann is used to from his son-in-law's wall box or the other public charging stations in the village, which manage a maximum of between eleven and 22 kW.

As soon as he heard that the new fast-charging station was going into operation, he immediately came to test it, says Deutschmann.

After 20 minutes he presses one of the buttons below the screen, ends the charging process and unplugs the car.

test passed.

"It doesn't get any better than that," says Deutschmann to Andreas Bayer.

Up to two e-cars can be charged at the same time

Bayer is pleased with the praise.

The municipal supervisor of the Lechwerke came to Peiting on Monday to give the official starting signal for the new fast charging station that his company had built together with Mayor Peter Ostenrieder.

The location at the parking lot of the former girls' school was one of three that the municipality had reported to the federal government as part of the Fast Charging Act and which has now been implemented thanks to funding.

Up to two e-cars can charge up at the new charging station at the same time.

Their total output for both connections is a maximum of 150 kW and is divided between the connected cars as required.

In the best case, it only takes about 30 minutes for the battery to be recharged from 20 to 80 percent.

Charging performance depends on several factors

Of course, the speed at which it is loaded depends on many factors.

So far, not every car has supported such high charging capacities, and the charge status of the battery and its temperature also play a role.

At the beginning, the power of the station was limited to 100 kW because a transformer needed for higher values would not be installed until January, explained Bayer.

The easiest way to pay is by app, credit card or a special charging card.

You are not limited to what LEW offers, customers from other providers can also use the charging station.

According to Bayer, how much a kilowatt hour costs depends on the tariffs used.

Here, too, prices have recently gone up significantly due to the energy crisis.

Other fast chargers on Zeißlerweg under discussion

Electromobility is likely to be the future sooner or later, which is why the new rapid charging station is also an important location factor for the town for the head of the town hall.

Due to its location in the center, the loading time can be optimally used for shopping or a visit to a café.

“This is real added value for the community.” Wolfram Deutschmann agrees.

But he fears that the offer will not be sufficient in the long term if the number of electric cars continues to rise in the next few years.

The Lechwerke are also aware of this.

"Our goal is of course to create more offers in the region," assures Bayer.

The last word has not yet been spoken in Peiting either.

Another fast loader on Zeißlerweg is currently in the funding request, it said on Monday.
