During the early hours of this Thursday, special teams from the Ecuadorian Police and Prosecutor's Office deployed several joint operations in the coastal city of Guayaquil.

These actions resulted in 14 people being detained for their alleged participation in the car bomb attacks carried out in various parts of the Guayas province at the beginning of November.

The police commander, Fausto Salinas Samaniego, reported on this operation that included several raids on properties in the sector.

"This morning we carried out 13 raids in Guayas, where 14 members of Los Lobos were captured, allegedly responsible for terrorist events with car bombs on November 1," reported Salinas Samaniego.

The Attorney General's Office reported that the 14 detainees, including three adolescents, "would have participated in the terrorist acts of last November" and added that weapons, ammunition, and other items were seized in the raids.

“Three vehicles, four firearms, 13 cell phones, 50 ammunition and explosives were seized.

The detainees were transferred to the Flagrancy Unit and the adolescents were isolated," the Prosecutor's Office said.

It is not yet known if the detainees have a lawyer.

On November 1, hours of terror were experienced in Guayaquil and Esmeraldas after the Ecuadorian Police reported more than 18 attacks and car bomb explosions against police units in different parts of the two cities.

Later, attacks were added in the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas.

The attacks left five officers dead and several police and military officers injured.

President Guillermo Lasso decreed a state of emergency in three provinces to contain the situation.

The November attacks occurred after the Service for Attention to Persons Deprived of Liberty (SNAI) ordered the transfer of hundreds of prisoners from the Litoral Penitentiary, the largest in Ecuador, to other prisons.

This generated resistance from criminal gangs.

During the security crisis in November, Lasso said on national television that the attacks were "deliberate terrorist attacks" orchestrated by drug traffickers, who sought to generate fear and chaos, "but they did not succeed."

"We are deploying all the necessary actions to confront this enemy: organized crime and drug trafficking... to "restore peace," added Lasso.
