To date, only a third of all street lamps in Hallbergmoos have been converted to LEDs.

The community wants to change that.

Hallbergmoos

– In order to save money and energy, the municipality of Hallbergmoos is now investing heavily: around 400,000 euros are estimated in the town hall for the conversion of the street lighting to LED technology.

The municipality is assuming funding of almost 130,000 euros.

There are currently 1542 street lights in the municipal area, of which only 476 have been converted to LED so far.

The town hall calculated that 953 street lights could still be switched.

Certain areas, such as the main road, are to be left out because new street lighting is planned here anyway as part of the renovation of the district road.

The conversion saves CO2, money and resources

The 953 convertible street lamps currently consume around 220,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity annually.

With the conversion, consumption drops to around 155,000 kWh.

“Electricity prices will continue to rise.

With the conversion, we save CO2, money and resources,” emphasized Mayor Josef Niedermair.

Josef Bestle, municipal supervisor of Bayernwerke, explained the possibilities of subsidies from the federal government (up to 25 percent) and the free state (60 percent).

Since the funding expires on December 31, the decision had to be made in a hurry.

According to the current status, 306 of the 953 lights are eligible.

85 percent (128,000 euros) of the costs of around €157,000 are funded by the federal government (25 percent) and the state (60 percent).

A share of approx. 29,000 euros remains for the municipality.

Speaker promotes “radical restructuring”

However, so-called “design” lights are not eligible.

The investment costs for LED inserts or replacing the lamp heads amount to 245,000 euros.

It would be possible, as was shown, to replace the design lamp heads with technical ones in 305 street lamps with a mast height of more than four meters.

Then they too would be eligible.

Stefan Kronner (senior for energy and local development) campaigned for a "radical and far-reaching conversion" to LED technology: "We should pack everything into the funding application.

At least where it is technically possible.”

Lights last a good 20 years

The council unanimously approved the proposed measures.

The administration was commissioned to identify streets where an eligible conversion to technical lamp heads is possible and sensible.

An unscheduled payment of 400,000 euros for 2023 was approved.

Funding of almost 130,000 euros is expected by 2025.

According to Bestle, the lights “last” for a good 20 years.

After about 100,000 hours of operation, the luminosity is still at 80 percent.

The manufacturer gives a ten-year guarantee.

A fast delivery time of two to three months can be expected for non-subsidized lights.

In the case of state-subsidized lamps, you have to wait for the funding decision, which takes an average of one year.
