The Syrian Trust for Development signed a cooperation agreement with the Watan Document Foundation to unify and organize efforts to preserve the Syrian intangible cultural heritage, within a unified strategic vision.
The agreement was signed by the CEO of the Municipality, Shadi Elshi, and the project manager of the Watan Document Foundation, Musa Al-Khoury.
The Secretariat explained in a statement posted on its Facebook page that the duration of the agreement is five years, during which it seeks to protect the Syrian cultural identity in a way that allows shedding light locally and globally on the richness of the Syrian heritage and sharing it with international communities through the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The statement pointed out that the Syrian Trust for Development, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the concerned authorities, was able to include 5 Syrian heritage elements within the UNESCO lists of the World Humanitarian Heritage, the last of which was the element of making and playing lutes.
She stressed that she seeks, through the Living Heritage Program, to protect the vibrant Syrian cultural identity, preserve the Syrian cultural heritage, and ensure its transmission to future generations, in cooperation with partners, stakeholders, individuals and local communities, and that she provides her expertise to them as a consulting member of UNESCO.
