The number of confirmed cases rebounded again. Today (15th) there were 17,080 new confirmed cases in Hong Kong, an increase of 14.86% from yesterday, and the level of more than 10,000 cases remained on the ninth day.
The number of cases in nursing homes remains at a high level. Cases were reported in 32 nursing homes today, and 48 residents and staff were infected.
In addition, the number of deaths fell slightly today, with a total of 19 people passing away. The seven-day average death toll was 26, and the seven-day average death rate was 0.178%. The cumulative death rate for the whole period continued to remain at 0.48%.

The new crown pneumonia epidemic has repeated, and there are another 17,080 confirmed cases in Hong Kong today.
Among the confirmed cases, 16,249 were local cases, and 831 were imported cases, accounting for about 4.87% of the total cases.
Among the newly imported cases, 474 involved samples tested at the airport, 277 involved samples from the first to third days, and the remaining 80 involved samples from the fourth to seventh days.
As 16,214 people entered the airport yesterday, the confirmed rate was 5.13%, exceeding the 5% level for two consecutive days.
The seven-day average number of confirmed cases was 750, and the seven-day average diagnosis rate was 4.23%.
Among the samples received by the Public Health Laboratory Service of the Department of Health for verification tests on local cases from December 6 to 12, the Omicron variant virus strains BA.2.12.1 and BA.4/BA.5 substrains (including suspected cases ) related samples accounted for 0% and about 57.62% (seven-day moving average ratio) respectively.

The Department of Health has discovered 7 more local cases with mutated virus strains today, namely 2 cases of XBB and 5 cases of BQ.1.1 subtype.
A total of 134 cases of XBB, 18 cases of XBD, 1 case of BA.2.75.2, 7 cases of BF.7 and 155 cases of subtype BQ.1.1 were also found in the local cases.
The two new local XBB cases involved a 48-year-old man who had received 3 doses of vaccine and a 30-year-old woman who had not received any vaccine.
As for the 5 BQ.1.1 subtype cases, 3 men and 2 women were involved, aged between 28 and 66 years old. Four of them had received three doses of vaccine, and one had not received any vaccine.
As for imported cases, no new mutated virus strains were found, and a total of 226 cases of XBB, 6 cases of XBD, 8 cases of BA.2.75.2, 7 cases of BA.4.6, 13 cases of BF.7 and 38 cases of BQ.1.1 substrains case.
In terms of schools, 893 schools reported 2,021 new cases, and another 20 schools with 20 classes were required to suspend classes for five days.
As for residential care homes, 32 residential care homes had confirmed cases, including 23 elderly care homes and 9 disabled care homes. Among them, 42 residents and 6 staff were diagnosed. The case should be isolated.
