Yolanda Dillion, 54, worked for Uber in her spare time to support her sick mother and buy Christmas presents. Authorities say 29-year-old Brandon Jacobs "woke up in the morning and decided that this would be the day to kill someone."

Yolanda Dillion, 54, worked as an Uber driver in her spare time.

On December 8, she parked at a hotel in New Orleans (Louisiana) to end a trip with a passenger.

There the man attacked her with a knife, causing injuries from which she later died in a hospital

, according to the police.

The attacker, identified as 29-year-old Brandon Jacobs, picked Dillion at random, stabbed her, recorded the attack and posted the video on his Facebook profile, according to the Jefferson Parish County Sheriff's Office.

Jacobs confessed after being taken into custody that he "woke up in the morning and decided that this would be the day to kill someone," Sheriff Joseph Lopinto III said at a news conference.

When questioned by police to find out why Dillion was attacked, “his response from him was:

'I didn't choose her.

Uber did it,'

” Lopinto detailed.

Dillion worked a few hours for Uber because she needed extra money for herself and her 83-year-old mother, a cancer survivor, local station WWL reported.

She was an only child.

This December she wanted to save for Christmas gifts that she would deliver to the church she attended.

“When your daughter leaves in the morning, you hope to see her back

,” said Edna Dillion, her mother.

"You can't take someone's life like that."

Dillion was well-liked at the New Orleans Police Department, where she worked for 10 years as an analyst, according to Superintendent Shaun Ferguson.

“We will miss her very much.

She was calm.

She was humble,” she recounted.

"Our team is suffering."

An Uber spokesperson told The Washington Post that the company is working with authorities and has contacted the driver's family to offer their condolences.

“We are deeply disturbed by this senseless attack,” the spokesperson said.

The video that Jacobs recorded of the attack was removed from Facebook.

After assaulting the driver, the suspect left the gun at the scene and entered the hotel where Dillon had taken him.

There he was detained by authorities, police revealed.

The suspect was charged with second degree murder.

According to investigations, Jacobs thought about attacking the driver of another vehicle that he boarded first, but gave up and decided to do it with whoever took him back to the Travelodge hotel, where he was staying.

Local media reported that Dillion was originally from New Orleans and studied for a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Sociology.

Wendell Pierce, a movie, series and theater actor, mourned his death and said the victim attended the same church as him.

"A woman with a heart of gold and a deep love for God was murdered yesterday

," he tweeted in a thread in which he claimed there is a security crisis in New Orleans.

Dillion had no siblings and financially supported her mother, for whom the family launched a GoFundMe fundraising campaign.

"He (the attacker) left me with no one," lamented the driver's mother.
