The designated minister visited Shabtai in closed talks: he demanded four Black Hawk helicopters • Senior police officers: Shabtai should resign

After the uproar at the discussion in the committee to amend the Police Ordinance Law, the designated Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, said last night in closed conversations: "The police do not want me to control their budget. I insist on controlling it to prevent, among other things, the commissioner's waste."

Shabtai stated in the committee that the change should be gradual.

He emphasized: "There were no cases where the minister sought to implement his policy and there was no response."

In the closed conversations, Ben Gabir added that he studied the police budget in depth: "The Commissioner demanded four Black Hawk helicopters to serve him as well.

With all due respect, there's no need for that, he can travel by car, he doesn't need a helicopter.

There is a lot more waste, I prefer this money to raise salaries for police officers, for police stations."

In those closed conversations, Ben Gabir stated: "A Black Hawk costs around 12 million dollars, there are also tiny helicopters that cost 2 million shekels. If the Commissioner wants to fly, he can buy them, but why waste it?"

On the other hand, senior police officials told "Israel Hayom" that the commissioner should resign. These words come after last week former commissioners and superintendents called on Shabtai to leave his position, in order to "maintain the honor of the police".

There are those who believe they can work together.

Either way, Ben Gvir and the commissioner are expected to meet in the coming days for a first working meeting. Those close to the designated minister said: "If he is presented with a draft of a law that will allow him to determine police policy, he will be open to hearing ideas.

If not, he will go all the way.'

The senior police officers also referred to the reservations expressed yesterday by RNA Shabtai regarding the amendment that Ben Gvir wants to make to the police order, and to the comments that the latter sent to the commissioner during his remarks at the committee.

"Those who watched the debate saw the commissioner and the person who wants to replace him," senior police officers told Israel Hayom.

Despite this, there are those in the police who express optimism and believe that despite the opposition expressed by the Commissioner, the two will be able to work together. This is because in his speech, Chief of Police Shabtai said that he is open to making amendments to the order to fit the spirit of the times.

"Shabtai is gifted with a special personality when working with people. In the end, not only will they be able to work together, Ben Gvir may also extend Shabtai's tenure by a year," estimated a senior police officer.

During the debate, Ben Gabir also attacked the person who heads the "Retired Commissioners and Superintendents' Club", former Commissioner Moshe Karadi.

Ben Gabir accused him of running a media campaign against amending the police ordinance.

"This is the refuge of the villain who doesn't know the facts," Kradi replied.
