The Hong Kong National People's Congress election will be held at the Wanchai Convention and Exhibition Center at 9:00 this morning. 1,423 members of the election meeting will elect 36 Hong Kong People's Congress deputies out of 42 eligible candidates by secret ballot.
Candidates arrived at the venue one after another in the morning, including executive council member Wu Qiubei, former Secretary for Transport and Housing Chen Fan, and chairman of the Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong Li Huiqiong.
[09:22] The presidium is seated. As the executive chairman of the presidium, Chief Executive Li Jiachao announced the official opening of the meeting. There are three agenda items to be voted on at the meeting.
