Going abroad without passport control: This practical travel simplification will also apply to Croatia from next year.

Tourists should still take their ID with them.

Whether by car to Austria or by plane to Spain: the Schengen Agreement simplifies travel immensely.

There are no barriers on the streets where identity cards or passports are checked, nor are there long queues in front of the federal police counter at the airport.

From January 2023, the popular travel destination Croatia will also be a member of the Schengen Agreement (named after the place where the contract was first signed in Luxembourg).

This means that German ski and summer vacationers usually no longer have to show any travel documents at all.

Because the usual transit countries to the Adriatic country, i.e. Austria, Italy and Slovenia, also belong to the Schengen area.

It is also practical for fans of Istria, Dalmatia or other Croatian regions that the euro will be the valid currency there from January 1, 2023.

However, in Croatia it is still mandatory to carry a passport or ID card and to show it at the border or in the country if requested.

Because the Schengen countries naturally still have the right to individual identity checks.

Due to the refugee problem, the federal police randomly checked travelers from Austria to Germany.
