The areas cultivated with the wheat crop in the lands under the supervision of the work of the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forest reached about 18 thousand hectares, since the beginning of the cultivation operations in the middle of last month to date.
The Director of Plant Wealth at the Authority, Engineer Wafiq Zarrouf, explained in a statement to SANA that the area planned for the cultivation of irrigated and rainfed wheat in the lands of the Al-Ghab region this season amounts to 61,534 hectares, of which 52,725 hectares are in safe areas, indicating that the currently cultivated areas are few and are expected to increase during the coming period with the rains. It provides production requirements, especially since farming operations in the region usually continue until the middle of next month.
Zarouf pointed out that three liters of diesel fuel were distributed to farmers for each dunum planted with wheat for the need for plowing and cultivation, indicating that wheat is an important strategic crop in the Al-Ghab region, and there is a noticeable demand for its cultivation due to the availability of production requirements and the high price of receiving it by grain centers and multiplying seeds. .
It is noteworthy that the final areas planted with wheat in the lands of Al-Ghab region last season amounted to 52,188 hectares, out of the total planned plan of 51,313 hectares.
