A fatal industrial accident occurred at the Kwai Chung Container Terminal this morning (15th). A 37-year-old male worker was carrying out a pressure test for the anti-collision rail accessories.
The father of the deceased said in an interview that his son's name was Ru Kaiyang, and he had worked as a construction site maintenance master for more than ten years, with a monthly income of about 30,000 yuan.
He and his wife have two young children and live in a public housing unit in Lei Muk Shue Estate with his parents and younger brother.
Ru's father pointed out that the son was the breadwinner of the family, and his wife mainly took care of the children. The deceased suddenly encountered an accident, leaving orphans and widows in a pitiful situation.
There have been fatal industrial accidents in Hong Kong for three consecutive days. The Industrial Injury Rights Association urges the authorities to conduct a comprehensive review of occupational safety and thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Xiao Qianwen, director-general of the Industrial Casualties Rights Association, said that the 37-year-old man who died in an industrial accident today was surnamed Ru. He and his wife had two young children who were in elementary school and those who were not in school. His wife was a housewife, and he was the breadwinner of the family.
Ru Kaiyang belongs to the maintenance department and is responsible for inspecting the anti-collision panel. When the incident happened, he was inflating the anti-collision panel for pressure testing, and suddenly exploded during the accident.
It is known that the brother of the deceased worked in the same site, but the type of work was different.
The crash pad suspected to be the accident was left behind at the scene, along with wind coal bottles and other tools beside it.
