Earthquakes in Austria: According to experts, this is how often it happens

The earthquake in the Tyrolean Lechtal is not an isolated case.

Tyrol was only affected at the end of October 2022.

In the Stubaital, Ötztal and in Sellrain in the Innsbruck-Land district, people felt an earthquake, weak to strong.

It was measured at a magnitude of 2.5 on the Richter scale.

Minor earthquakes like this one happen more often in Austria than most would think.

"The population in Austria perceives 30 - 60 earthquakes a year," writes the ZAMG on its website.

Earthquakes with damage to buildings would only occur "very irregularly".

Every 15 to 30 years the earth trembles so strongly that moderate building damage occurs, every 75 to 100 years an earthquake can cause serious damage.

The situation is different in Greece, for example: numerous earthquakes did not occur there until the end of November.

Experts were initially concerned and surprised by the strong movements in the affected region.
