In the trial following a series of right-wing extremist crimes in Berlin-Neukölln, the public prosecutor's office demanded three and a half years in prison for one of the main suspects.

The 39-year-old was guilty of aiding and abetting arson in two cases and damaging property in eleven cases, it said in a pleading before the Tiergarten district court on Thursday.

Berlin - In three cases, signs of unconstitutional organizations were used.

A final sentence of one and a half years imprisonment was included in the penalty applied for.

It was unclear whether a verdict would be pronounced on the same day.

According to the Attorney General, on the night of February 1, 2018, the 39-year-old Schmiere, together with an alleged accomplice, carried out arson attacks on the cars of two men who are politically active against right-wing extremism.

He had scouted out the victims before the crimes and "made a mess".

In addition, the accused is said to have sprayed right-wing extremist slogans and the likeness of Nazi war criminal and Hitler deputy Rudolf Hess as well as SS runes in several places in August 2017 together with the 36-year-old.

The two men are assigned to the right-wing extremist scene.

The younger one was once in the NPD, while the older one was a part of the AfD.

A parliamentary investigative committee of the Berlin House of Representatives is also dealing with the right-wing extremist arson attacks, hate speech and threats in Neukölln.
