A UNIFIL soldier was killed and three were wounded in a shooting incident in southern Lebanon:
The military force responsible for maintaining peace on the northern border announced today (Thursday) that one of its soldiers was killed during the night and three other soldiers were wounded in a shooting incident, the details of which have not yet been clarified.
"On Wednesday night, a UNIFIL soldier was killed and three others were injured in an incident in al-Aqabiya, just outside the UNIFIL operational area in southern Lebanon," it said.

The Irish Ministry of Defense defined the incident as a "serious incident", and confirmed that the person killed was one of its soldiers in the service of the UN peacekeeping force. They also said that the soldier was killed "when small arms fire was opened on an APC convoy that was transporting eight soldiers to the capitals".
The Irish Minister of Defense, Simon Cooney, told the country's national radio: "As far as I understand, the convoy was attacked by an angry mob and shots were fired. The family of the soldier who was killed was notified during the night. This is the first Irish soldier to fall on a peacekeeping mission in two decades."
In the meantime, the al-Mayadeen network, which is close to Hezbollah, claims that it is actually a traffic accident, after one of the APCs overturned near the city of Sidon. Immediately after the incident, a demonstration by local residents allegedly began, while al-Mayadeen claimed that the military vehicle was traveling "on the wrong route" .
