Sigourney Weaver impresses as much by her stature (1.80 m) as by her immense filmography, in the radius of which we find classics such as

Ghostbusters

I love French, but it's hard to speak it with sophistication.
I prefer to speak in English because my vocabulary is not good enough

Thirteen years after the first film, how does it feel to come back to
Avatar
?
It was very interesting to reunite with the character of Grace, because I felt like I wasn't completely done with her when she was killed off in the first movie.
I was very excited that James Cameron gave him the chance to return in this thrilling and moving story that will span five films!
You come back to life as Kiri, a young teenager raised by the hero couple. It's rather unexpected, isn't it?
It's quite funny and I thank current technology because few 70-year-old actresses like me are called upon to play a 13-year-old teenager!
(Laughs)
I remembered when I was 13… It was an awful time for me, because I was very tall, weird and not comfortable with myself.
When James Cameron told me about Kiri, I understood that this young girl was like all teenagers, with passions and desires.
On set, I was trying to feel the feelings of a 13-year-old girl.
James Cameron even said to me, “You're that age anyway!
You are so immature that it will be easy for you.

How do you explain the incredible success of
Avatar
?
Thanks to history, which is universal.
It's a family that loves and protects each other against a common enemy.
You have to find the balance between the world before and the new challenges while avoiding endangering the planet on which you live.
We have to be aware of it.
Do you think the real world realizes this enough compared to the world of
Avatar
?
It depends on the countries.
In France, you are way ahead of us on this.
In the United States, we are making progress, but it is very difficult when we see the resistance some politicians oppose to the fight against global warming.
However, Americans are not stupid!
We know that times are changing.
It is also the same thing in real life on Earth as in fiction in
Avatar
.
This is what
Avatar
is about : our blindness to what surrounds us, to the value of life, nature and biodiversity!
Sigourney Weaver
The environmental message of the first
Avatar
in 2009 was ahead of its time.
Does it remain the same today?
He is very present.
Because that's what
Avatar
is about : our blindness to what surrounds us, to the value of life, nature and biodiversity!
For a long time, we did not realize the harm we do to our planet every day.
This is the main message of the film.
We see that the deterioration of the climate has accelerated since 2009. There is a real urgency now...
Is the second part of
Avatar
better than the first?
For me, yes !
This film gives incredible feelings to the public.
I hope that a new generation will discover this universe and love it.

What memory do you keep?
I loved doing this series so much!
I would also very much like to work in France again.
I believe that the Americans are going to make a remake of the series but it will never match the original French version.
Are you going to appear in another series soon?
I have a lot of film projects and it's hard to find the time.
But in 2023, I'll be starring in a miniseries on Amazon Prime called
The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart
.
I find that the quality of series on streaming platforms has been excellent for some time.
