According to a feature article just released by the Census and Statistics Department, in 2020 there are 534,200 people with disabilities (excluding those with intellectual disabilities) and 1,799,100 chronically ill patients in Hong Kong, totaling more than 2.333 million people.

As for the total number of mentally handicapped people in Hong Kong, according to rough statistical estimates, there are about 77,000 to 90,000 people.

Analyzed by age, among the 534,000 persons with disabilities and nearly 1.8 million chronically ill persons, persons aged 70 and above accounted for 44.5% and 40% respectively.

Most caregivers are children, son-in-law and daughter-in-law

Of all persons with disabilities and chronically ill persons, 204,200 persons with disabilities and 248,000 persons with chronic illnesses are living in households and are cared for by others due to health conditions or special needs (i.e. difficulties in daily life or using assistive devices) its daily life.
