In Montpellier, intercommunity tensions between Travelers and North Africans have been escalating since Wednesday, after the end of the France-Morocco football match.
That evening, a 14-year-old boy was run over by a car in the popular Mosson district, in the northwest of Montpellier.
A group of twenty young people had surrounded a white Citroën C4 and tried to tear off a French flag found in the vehicle.
The driver then started hastily before turning around and fatally crushing this 14-year-old minor of North African origin.
The man behind the wheel then fled, then abandoned his vehicle near the scene of the accident.
Beaten up
"The car was not stolen, so the driver was quickly identified
," said a police source.
This individual, on the run and wanted by the police, would come from the Traveler community.
