Sin Cheuk-lan, vice-chairman of the Sha Tin District Council of the Democratic Party, believes that as public service companies, CLP and HK Electric should consider the public interest, especially when the economic situation is uncertain, and affordable power supply can reduce the burden on the public.
Zhou Xiaolan, a member of the Democratic Party's Sha Tin district, said that CLP and Hong Kong Electric signed a "Scheme of Control Agreement" with the Hong Kong government until 2033, which stipulates that the allowable rate of return on the profits that can be earned based on the fixed assets of the power company is 8%. .
In the face of various challenges under the epidemic, the two power companies not only failed to increase income and reduce expenditure in fixed assets, but also chose to acquire all within the desirable growth rate. The situation is not ideal.
The Democratic Party also pointed out that although the Hong Kong government has asked the two power companies not to make a profit, the two power companies do not agree with the proposal and insist on the original price increase plan.
The two power companies should try their best to reduce operating and capital expenditures, lower the basic electricity price, and tide over the difficulties together with the public.
Advocate to increase the amount of electricity subsidy
Fan Lesheng, director of the Tai Po community of the Democratic Party, believes that the two power companies have monopolized the power generation and power supply services in Hong Kong, and the public can only obey in the face of electricity tariff increases.
Therefore, the two power companies should provide more subsidies to the grassroots and needy citizens, and the government should announce the implementation of the government electricity subsidy plan for the new year as soon as possible, and increase the amount of relevant subsidies, so as to alleviate the rising pressure on the cost of living of citizens.
The joint signature operation started in late November this year, and collected signatures from citizens on the streets of Sha Tin and Tai Po respectively. Online joint signatures were also set up, and a total of 1,147 signatures were received.
